Dr. MacInnis is a seasoned psychologist with 20 years of professional experience. She completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Western Ontario. Her research was in “positive psychology” which challenged traditional views of what makes people “well” and satisfied with their lives and urged professionals to develop methods not only to help people find relief for distress (very important) but also on helping people find joy, meaning, and purpose in their lives (also important!). Since the time of her research, this field has truly flourished as have people who have applied these positive practices.

Dr. MacInnis has worked in a wide variety of settings including hospitals, universities, government, consulting, private practice and with a wide breadth of private and crown corporations. She is licensed with l’ordre des psychologues du Québec to practice clinical and organizational psychology. The areas she specializes in include: work-related stress, burn-out and career development, relationship issues and decisions, personal and team leadership, dealing with change and transition, developing personal insight, acceptance, and confidence (about values, emotions, style and relationships) to improve engagement, relationships, quality of life, and achievement.

Dr. MacInnis’ style could be described as positive, collaborative and empathic. She believes that people grow and thrive when they experience a relationship based on trust, respect, honesty and genuine acceptance and appreciation of the whole person (all qualities because everyone has strengths and things they are working to improve). She also believes that knowing and enlarging strengths is as important as gaining control over the traits or habits that may getting in your way. Most importantly, Dr. MacInnis believes that you are “in charge” of your life and that it is most important that we work together on what’s most critically important to you, that you would like to focus on, that you feel will have the most impact for you. She is there to guide and support you, provide tools and help you build insights and techniques to engage in your life more effectively. We can even laugh, connect and enjoy the journey together.
