Thank you so much Peter for the great time you spent working with us!

I’m Dr Peter Giancola.  I’m a licensed clinical psychologist born in Montreal.  I received my graduate training in the United States and then worked there for almost 20 years.  I recently decided to return permanently to Montreal.  In my opinion, Montreal has an energy and a charm that is absolutely unmatched; I have been away for too long!

I was extensively trained in cognitive behavioural and traditional behaviour therapy techniques.  I helped a large number of clients with difficulties ranging from problems in living resulting from anxiety and depression all the way to working in an inner-city psychiatric emergency room where we literally dealt with acute life-and-death psychiatric crises on a daily basis.

Although the foundation of my knowledge of psychology came from my scholastic training, other life experiences have enriched my understanding of the human condition as well.  These experiences have greatly deepened my ability to develop genuine and meaningful human connections with my clients.  This is why, in addition to my scientifically-based Cognitive Behavioural approach, I believe that a Person-Centred Wellness element is equally crucial in achieving a profoundly effective therapeutic relationship, and by virtue of that fact, an end goal of personal healing.

So, my goal as a therapist is to create a safe and protected environment for my clients; where it is clear to them that they are accepted and that their feelings are validated without judgment.  This is critically important because it allows me to utilize all of my knowledge, capabilities and life experiences to “meet” and “sit” with my clients in whatever place of tragedy that they might be in at that time.  In my humble opinion, I sincerely believe that this level of deep and profound human care and connection is necessary for maximal healing to occur.
