What are psycho-educational assessments?

Psycho-educational assessments describe the psychological functioning and learning profile (strengths and weaknesses) of children, adolescents, and adults. The assessments evaluate cognitive (thinking) abilities, information processing skills, and academic achievement using objective, standardised tests. The purpose of these assessments is to determine whether academic struggles are due to learning disabilities, ADHD, or intellectual delays.

Assessments may include:

  • Parent interviews
  • Teacher interviews
  • Questionnaires and/or behavioural scales
  • Cognitive testing
  • Achievement testing
  • Memory testing
