We all thrive toward harmony, connectedness and well-being. It’s a human thing. Life often times challenges us in unexpected ways, pushing us further away from these existential goals. Same goes with our relationships. We endeavor love and couplehood to satisfy these needs of well-being and sometimes wake up to a reality that is far different than the plan we had drawn for ourselves.

Relationships can hurt, but relationships also hold the potential to heal, in powerful ways. This is what couple’s therapy offers : an in the present moment opportunity to repair bonds and transform them into healing connectedness. It is an opportunity to learn to foster and nurture intimacy and to do relationships in a skillful and satisfactory way.

My name is Patrick De Bortoli and I work as a Couple and Family Therapist, Psychotherapist. Rich of 20 years of clinical experience, I want to offer you what Irvin Yalom, calls the Gift of Therapy : the promise of a safe place, a refuge through an intimate bond which heals and also acts as a crucible which holds and allows for growth. A gift of authenticity and trust, that challenges but nurtures as much. A gift of welcoming diversity in all its richness and cultivating it. The gift of hope.

My practice holds on the foundation of working on myself, my own relationships, exploring and challenging my own blindspots as a therapist but also as a human being. This seems essential to me in the perspective of not asking those that seek my counsel to work on aspects of their lives, that I shy away from in mine.

Trained as Couple and Family Therapist at Syracuse University, in what was the best program in the nation, I bring a focus on a present and future solution-oriented perspective, putting the emphasis on strengths to find concrete solutions to present day problems. A collaborative work enriching people’s lives with alternative ways to see themselves and their couples, by re-thinking their problems and re-authoring their lives.
